Round 2 Versus Denver

The Ravens get ready for a rematch of week 15 when they host the Broncos, which did not turn out so well for the Purple and Black on December 16. Peyton Manning and Company cruised 34-17 at M&T Bank Stadium. Get ready for chapter two, this time the stakes are a little bit higher.. Also an even bigger challenge due to the fact it is in the Mile-High City, 5,200 feet above sea level. The team will get to Denver the day before they have to play one of the biggest games in franchise history. With that, the players know how important this game is and what they will require for a victory. Ray Rice said, “I don’t want to go into that game letting their defense dictate how we play ball. We have a certain way we play around here. It’s playoff football. We are going to go out there and give it our best shot, obviously, but my biggest thing this week is how we execute. They are a great defense. They are a great team. I’m not taking that away from them. They have earned the right to have their homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. With all our ups and downs, we have earned the right to get another shot.” With every playoff game possibly being Ray Lewis’s last game as a Raven. Rice is not prepared for that, “A guy that has played 17 years, won a Super Bowl, has all kinds of honors and the one last victory lap around the stadium just to soak up everything, it was just so emotional. What he’s done for me … I’m sure he’s done a lot for you all just the way he plays the game. To see that one victory lap, when I saw him come out of that tunnel, it was just an emotional-struck day for me. I’m glad I got to live to fight another day. You all know why.” Next is the preparation for the game on Saturday. They have to stop Peyton Manning, which has never been an easy task.

The Broncos quarterback has a nine-game winning streak against the Ravens. It dates back to his fifth year in the NFL with Indianapolis. Lewis is not just ready for Manning he is ready for the whole team. “You hear that time and time again, and I think for my team, the thing is it’s not about facing Peyton; it’s about facing the Denver Broncos. As a team, that’s our No. 1 goal. Who are we going to play? Like I said, just sitting in the team meetings and just listening to everything, everything we’ve been talking about is going to play the team that has won 11-straight games. They have a very hot streak going right now. Arguably, they are the best team in football. If that’s what it is, then let’s line up and let’s be who we are, and let’s get ready to play the best team in football.” That is the kind of mind set that a 17-year veteran will make sure his team mates take in, which is yes Manning is an elite player, but is one player on the field, have to focus on the whole team and advantage of their weakness not just Manning’s.

Even though the Ravens are the underdogs in this game, they will have several players that did not participate in week 15. That will be a factor, but so will the altitude. Lewis said it never has affected him, Rice has never played in Denver. That will be interesting; maybe the altitude is over played because the team doctors and trainers will defiantly have the team prepared for it. What can stop a fast pace offense? , a high powered defense. Which Baltimore has. They also can also force turnovers, the Ravens’ “D” has forced 35 INT’s, in last 12 postseason contests. It is time to look ahead, as the Ravens try and keep Lewis from hanging up his cleats on Saturday.

Ravens Send Ray Out a Winner in Baltimore

Ray Lewis last home game at M&T Bank Stadium was certainly something special. The crowd was electric. He made his final entrance coming out of the tunnel with his legendary dance that made the fans erupt. It was a table setter for what was a wonderful game and a special day for Baltimore, the Ravens and Lewis.

More importantly, with a 24-9 victory over the Colts, their first ever in the post-season, the “Purple and Black “ will look to take down Peyton Manning next week. Wide Receiver Anquin Boldin set a franchise record with 145 yards receiving, including the clinching touchdown. The win delays the star linebacker s’ retirement for at least another week as Baltimore (11-6) heads to top-seeded Denver (13-3) next Saturday. Lewis, who made 13 tackles Sunday, ended his last home game in Baltimore at fullback, of all things, for the final kneel-down. He then went into a short version of his trademark dance before being mobbed by teammates.

The Ravens overcame two lost fumbles by Ray Rice, which were the first of the season by any Baltimore running back. Meantime, John Harbaugh became the only head coach in the Super Bowl era with wins in his first five playoff seasons with the team. Now comes the Broncos again, Lewis said after the game, “That’s easy. I’ve already turned my iPad in to get Denver film now. It’s onto the next one. That’s one thing about being in this business so long. I told them, ‘We don’t have the 24-hour rule now. We have a less-than-12-hour rule,’ because we are back to work. We knew who we have next week. Denver is going to be well-rested. We saw them earlier in the year, but now we get them again with all of our guys back. We are really looking forward to it.” Expect nothing less from a 17-year veteran.

It was a great day in the city Baltimore something that players and fans will never forget and the victory only enhanced the situation . Afterwards, Lewis commented on his “Ripken like “ victory lap after the game, “In the moment. I had nothing planned today at all. My total focus today was to come in and play my heart out and get my team a win. Everything else just came with it. Everything just came with it. There was probably no greater moment than seeing my kids, my mom, my dad, my family right there in the end of the end zone. That was probably when I lost it emotionally, because I knew that everything I have always done has always been for them.” It was a team effort in the win and Joe Flacco now has won at least one postseason game in all five of his pro seasons, the only quarterback to do it in the Super Bowl era. His main target Sunday was Boldin, who had receptions of 50 and 46 yards, plus his 18-yard TD.

And with this being Ray Lewis last home game as a Raven he said, “It probably won’t. It probably won’t sink in. You know what, the reason why it probably won’t is because it’s probably the last thing on my mind right now. Seriously, because the next thing on my mind is, as a team, we are poised to go do something. Whenever the road stops – ultimately God’s will is God’s will. As men, we made a commitment to each other, and that is to next week head to Denver to get a win.” So the journey resumes.

Ray’s Last Dance

In what was supposed to be an announcement regarding his triceps injury , Ray Lewis shocked everyone! The future hall of famer will hang up the cleats after the postseason. The Ravens linebacker spent all seventeen of his years with the franchise. Lewis says “it is time for me to create a new legacy” after being drafted in 1996 in the purple and black.

He will intend to play against the Colts in Sunday’s wild-card game. Which will be his first action since tearing his triceps two months ago? He also made sure that people will be aware of him being him on the field. He said, “We’ve got a great relationship with each other I trust them, and they trust me. I’ve worked my butt off to get to this point. There is no reason for me to not play.” This game will mean a lot and will be Lewis’ final game in Baltimore, unless they somehow make the AFC championship . Lewis is as well known for his introduction dance and energy as he is for his play on the field; expect M&T Bank Stadium to be electrifying when he comes on the field before the game.

“Obviously he’s a first-ballot Hall of Famer we all know what he’s done on and off the football field,” Colts coach Chuck Pagano said “Like everyone who’s had an opportunity to be around the guy, we’ll cherish that for the rest of our lives.” Lewis is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, a 13-time Pro Bowler, a seven-time First Team All-Pro and a Super Bowl MVP. His legacy will defiantly live on both on and off the field.

Nobody seemed to take the news harder than Ray Rice – who said that Lewis “has been a father to him “ ……Sunday should be electric!
